Who flavored the rain?

It’s been a week of scorching heat and today we are finally getting some much needed rain. A lovely thunder storm is rumbling outside right now and the kids and I are all drying off from showers. Showers we took because, well, call me paranoid, but because the rain tasted bad. I mean, ear wax bad, but worse.
We were out running around in the rain for about 1 full minute when my eyes started burning a bit and a disgusting taste entered my mouth. It was over powering and I said to myself, “That’s not the rain is it?” So I licked rainwater off my arm and ACK!
I herded the kids inside, praying we hadn’t been bathing in some deadly chemical downpour. We all stripped and jumped into the shower to purge ourselves of whatever the heck it was that was flavoring the rain. And the burning in my eyes? I’m wondering if I’ll go blind now.
Has anyone ever tasted nasty rain, or had it make their eyes burn?

Not that I remember…that’s scary! The rain here in California is black. My husband always says it rains dirt here, and he’s right. I got caught in a major downpour once and my clothes got dirty from it. You get this black film over everything, even just from moisture in the air condensing overnight on your car. I’m always reminding the kids not to lean against the car in their church clothes.
