It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
I’ve always been big into Christmas decorating. I took over the decorating of the house for my parents when I was 14. My dad supplied the ladder and in early December I could be found on top of the roof stringing the lights, taping lights in every window in the house and threading them through tree branches. I can’t wait to have a house to decorate the outside of again. For now I make due with decorating the interior of our little apartment.
Today I set up the nativity set and hung lights and stockings and other Christmas decorations while the delicious smell of my Apple Wreath candle burned nearby. The boys we’re thrilled to help me tape lights to their bedroom window. After all of the lights were strung they insisted on turning off every light in the apartment to enjoy the glow. And they spoke excitedly of picking out a fresh Christmas tree in a week. I love Christmas decorations. And I love doing the decorating.
What about you?

I love being in a room that is full of Christmas cheer, but the actual process of decking the halls is what I don’t love so much. I love it until I haul it all out and get the tree half-lit, then I don’t love it anymore. But I still finish and am always glad I did.
I haven’t decorated yet. Some years I didn’t, my children did the decorating that got done. Now that most of them have moved out and they now give me decorations I guess if anything gets done it will be by me.
I spend time making gifts and I am in school, both of these things seem to be more important than decorating until I think of my youngest child. At 17, this may be his last Christmas living at home. Decorating takes on more importance. I am glad that Thanksgiving came early this year. It is like an extra week for Christmas.
We decorated on Saturday and I have the Christmas carols playing in the house and in the car. I love this time of year!
We haven’t decorated yet - too much else going on over the weekend. Hopefully we’ll have time this weekend - I feel like we’re so behind on everything about the holidays. We haven’t even scheduled pictures yet. And yet it’s not even December!
Want to come decorate our house? I have no idea if Ron’s going to have time to put the lights up outside and I’m not one to do it myself… :)
I decorate right after Thanksgiving… usually. I’ve got some of our stuff out right now, but I also have a lot of extra hands helping me… mostly undoing or wanting to touch everything. We haven’t put up the tree yet… we’ll see how that goes…
I’ve never been huge on it, but I’d like to. I’d really like to have a whole lighted village, a great nativity set, and an advent calendar. But I have none of the above, still working on tree ornaments, ha ha.
Mmmm… I love Christmas too! Then again, who doesn’t? I have had this secret problem though since having my own house.. I just can’t seem to settle on a Christmas color. I mean, should I go with Gold or Silver? Deep Red or a more Purpley red? Or just throw caution to the wind and go with Blue? Sigh…. so instead I buy ribbon each year with a different color, and try to decide if I like it. Maybe I should write a blog about his…
Me too : ) But I have to do some serious cleaning first - which I’m not as excited about : (
I usually do my decorating the day after Thanksgiving, but my husband is out of town so we are waiting to do the tree as a family. However that hasn’t stopped me from the rest :)
I am so the same!
We put up our decorations over the course of the last three days. Last night, Neil set up our nativity set in the unused upstairs fireplace. He put a green backed blanket in and nestled the pieces on top, then strung up white twinkle lights inside. Incredible.
I can sympathize with the decorating an apartment thing, this is our first Christmas in a house, and…wow. We really, really need more decorations!
We’re all set and ready for Christmas joy and celebrations! Last year, we had twin babies before Thanksgiving, so things were a little hectic for Christmas.
This year, they’re old enough that we are back into the flow of things, and I am more eager about Christmas this year than usual.
(You don’t know me, but I read your blog ‘in hiding.’ Just felt like commenting today because I’m so excited for Christmas this year! Thanks!)
I remember you on the ladder putting up the lights very vividly. It’s a fond Christmas memory of mine. I hope we’ll live across the street from each other again someday.
My parents were so gung-ho about Christmas decorating that I think that it pushed me the other way a little. For example, I still try to avoid going over the day my mom sets up her ceramic Christmas village (well, actually, it’s big enough to call a “Christmas metropolitan area” now) because it’s so tedious. Although, I’ve had a little change of heart about Christmas decor recently. Curious George is so excited about it this year, that it’s bringing back some of the excitement for me as well. It’s so cute!
Love, Love, Love it. As I said on my blog. I believe it is a everyone’s duty to decorate the house Thanksgiving weekend. Well, I am not really that judgemental, but I live for it. Every night I spend a little bit of time in the dark room with just the tree lights on. Man I love Christmas!
