What do you see?

alohafriday1.jpg

Ok, so I’m going to cheat and ask a couple of questions this time around.

What color is my sidebar? What internet browser do you use? And does anyone know why it appears a different color on some browsers than others and if I can fix it?

I see it as green (the color it’s suppose to be) in Safari, but when I use Firefox it’s this light blue or gray color and doesn’t entirely match. What is the deal?

i am browsing thru internet explorer 7, on a LCD monitor.
the colors i see are brown at all the sides, red-brown on the links, dark grey on texts, lighter gray shading on the side panels, green on the title texts on the side panel, light blue around the comment area …
is this too much information. i hope this helps ..

    Same as Charlotte - everything.

    Ditto to what Charlotte said!

LOL! Okay… this interesting for Aloha Friday! I am viewing on Firefox with an LCD monitor and the side bar is definitely looking light gray to me!

Now… I just viewed it through IE6 and it looks the exact same as it does through Firefox.

Sounds to me like Safari might be the one a little off??? I dunno. I know different MONITORS view things differently. But technically, on the same monitor colors should appear the same regardless of the program your using. That’s weird!

I have all three browsers, I’ll eamil you screenshots from each if you’d like. :)

The color looks like chocolate milk to me, very pale blue on the right side with links. I’m using FireFox.

Weird! I’m using FireFox and your sidebar definitely looks gray to me. The sides are a brown color - Sheila’s right that it looks like chocolate milk.

One funny thing though - your blog title, post titles and and the titles of all the sections on your sidebar all are a strange symbol font when I visit your actual site. I usually read through Google Reader and they appear fine there, but every time I view your actual site, they are unreadable…

Ok, I just checked in IE (version 6) and I can read all of the titles, but they’re in a very curvy, cursive font so they are still a bit difficult to decipher. And the colors look the same in IE to me as they do in Firefox…

Love your questions. Very creative! I use IE7 and your side bar is light blue or gray. Gotta be frustrating when you set it for what you want and then it isn’t.

Okay….I’ll have to go with Charlotte on this one.
I use Internet Explorer and your sidebar is gray.

I use Internet Explorer. The background looks like chocolate milk, and the text in the sidebar matches it. The color of the sidebar looks light gray / pink to me.

Hey - yes, that worked! I see your titles just fine now and the sidebar is kind of an olive green color… Is that what you were going for? :)

I’m using Firefox, and the sidebar looks like a soft olive green.

Same as Deb & Mama Zen.

Here’s the reason why. You have two CSS style sheets listed, and they give conflicting instructions to the browser. The summersnook.com CSS file sets the background to this khaki drab (officially named “burlywood”, #CCCC99). The style.css from WordPress.com sets the background to #EDEDED (”grey93″). (The element in both is li.sidebox .)

The first reason I’d give for the difference between browsers is that Firefox is “standards compliant,” and IE is not, meaning that they adhere to CSS and HTML standards (or not).

Explorer and the side bar is a light grayish blue.

I’m using Firefox and it’s a grey color which kind of matches the mauve overall background. :-)

I’m totally lost by all this technical mumbo jumbo. I see chocolate brown and what the heck is firefox and ohmygosh I had no idea my blog was coming across distorted. My sister told me the same thing. Maybe it’s time to go back to the basics!

I’m in IE and your sidebars look like chocolate milk. Jordan’s explanation is very interesting. I knew things were wonky in different browsers, but I thought it was just placement of sidebars, not colors. I’m going to have to look at in FireFox.

  18. AudraNo Gravatar on November 16th, 2007 2:35 pm

The sidebar is green and I use Firefox. :) I have no idea why it changes from browser to browser.

I use firefox-the sides look a light chocolate brown, the side bar is, I’m not sure what you would call it, a greyish brownish greenish sepia-type color. Sorry that’s not too explicit. It looks good with the brown and your sepia picture though.

I use Firefox, primarily. But sometimes Flock.

Your sidebar is a light green color . . . sort of a grassy color and the background is what I would call sand.

I have no idea why different browsers make it look different, but I would check the stylesheet and make sure that all colors are fully defined. Instead of just using 3 numbers to describe all of the colors, make sure that the full six are set forth. For instance, my headlines, sidebar titles, etc. are #AD4242. Some designers abbreviate colors, so you might see all text as “555,” for example. Make sure you pick the color you want and list the full color everywhere in the style sheet. See if that helps.
