Rate your level of cynicism
It’s late at night. You are already in your PJ’s when you remember that load of laundry that has been sitting for hours in the shared dryer unit of your apartment complex. You kindly ask hubby who is watching football to please get the laundry before he comes to bed, and he nods in the affirmative.
It is now morning, you wake and go to get dressed when you remember your jeans were in the last laundry load. You enter the living room expecting to see said load of laundry. But it’s not there. Neither is hubby who has left for work. You scurry down the hallway half dressed to retrieve the laundry and find your entire load is neatly folded and sitting on top of the dryer. You think:
A) Wow, how nice of the person needing to use the dryer to perform such a service for me. They must have noticed the little kid clothes and wanted to help a busy mother out.
B) Somebody has way too much time on their hands
C) Obviously someone is trying to make me feel guilty for forgetting to retrieve my clothes in a timely manner. *huff*
D) Obviously someone is trying to make me feel guilty for forgetting to retrieve my clothes in a timely manner. *huff*
*thinking*
Darnit, it’s working!
*thinking*
Well maybe they were just trying to be nice. Maybe I am a cynic? I can’t believe my first thought was that someone was trying to make me feel guilty. Maybe they weren’t and I just thought something bad about this nice person who folded my laundry for me.
*thinking*
Oh now I feel guilty for being so cynical!! *frustrated stamp of foot* I can’t freaking win!
If your answer was A:
You are anything but cynical. Perhaps even a little too trusting. Face the facts, sometimes life and people really are out to get you. But we could all do with a little more optimism I suppose.
If your answer was B:
Your not on all out cynic but you’re leaning that way. You are definitely a realist and perhaps a little mean spirited at times. Be careful what you say around others as you don’t want to hurt too many feelings on accident. Or on purpose
If your answer was C:
Yep, your a cynic.
If your answer was D:
You are all of the above. You also think WAAAAAY too much. If you need to, go zone out in front of a video game to get rid of all thought before your brain explodes.

I’m a cynic… but, my first thought would have been one of embarrassment… and maybe a touch of anger at hubby for not getting the clothes… so, I’m a cynical tyrant. Good combo, eh?
Was D supposed to say all of the above? Because that’s me to a t.
I have to say B. I would assume they needed the dryer, and just took out the clothes…but to spend the time to fold them? Too much time on their hands. I am not sure I would be happy they touched all my laundry that much.
I’m a cynic - but I also assume that they probably just needed the dryer and it would have made me really happy that they had folded my laundry - might just try this tactic more often - tee hee. See ya.
Oh yes, I’m ‘D’ all the way. I would think all of those things and then spend the next 437 hours trying to decide whether they really were just trying to be nice or trying to make a point. But I would be very happy that I didn’t need to fold the laundry! :)
I suppose I’m a D. I would start out thinking it was really nice, then determine they had too much time on their hands, then wait a minute, maybe they really were just trying to show me what a jerk I am for hogging the machine!
Then I would stew about their true intent for a while, find something new to stew about for a while, and if I ever found myself with nothing to stew about, I’d probably revisit the experience. Save it in the ol’ bank of needless things to worry about when I don’t have anything to worry about. :-P
(Oh yeah, I would be irritated with DH too.)
Um, I picked A, but normally I’m fairly cynical.
When I was in college, and we would be doing laundry in the laundry room, we often folded other people’s clothes if they didn’t get there in time to pick them up. Yes, sometimes it was because we needed the dryer, other times it was just to be nice and it was fun to see their reactions as they tried to figure out who might have done it. Sometimes we folded the clothes and put them back into dryer.
I’d be thinking, “ew, who touched my underwear?”
Marie LOL! I was so glad there was no underwear in that load.
You didn’t put option E) You rewash that load because you have no idea whose grungy disgusting hands were all over your underpants.
(Which I had to do many times in my old apartment building. People would come empty the washer MIDCYCLE)
I am so with Thalia’s Child; creepy neighbor may have been getting a little too cozy with your undies.
Stumbled upon your blog; it’s great and I will return!
Lol, I would have picked option D, and I’m guessing that’s the one you “picked”, too, because that’s the only way you could have known the sequence of convoluted thought that accompanies that train of thought. But you’re right, I could use some video game time. Anyone want to give me a Wii for Christmas?
I would have picked C but I have folded laundry that I pulled out of the dryer so that I could use it and I’ve folded laundry of my neighbors just as a suprise. I hope that after the first thoughts I would give credit to someone for helping out.
I’m a complete cynic! I would have felt soooo guilty. But this is something I would do on a regular basis because I’m such a a flake sometimes.
I’m d. I guess I think too much about everything. It can even keep me awake at night! I have to talk myself out of it.
Lowe’s, huh. You mean I’ve been driving way too far and spending too much money for ours?
Yep, I’m D. And I do think way too much. I’ll have to think about that. :)
Yep, I’m a cynic. No way around that one. I”ve embraced it though. Just let the cynic love in Summer!
