The first day of Christmas
The Christmas season is officially here! Yay! And on this first day of Christmas someone gave to me, the new Michael W. Smith Christmas CD.
So honestly, I didn’t know who Michael W. Smith was before I received this CD to review. But I figured it’s fairly hard to go wrong with Christmas music, so I opted to listen to it and tell you what I think.
Micheal W. Smith performs a few vocal numbers and is backed by what must be a gigantic orchestra. A couple of the other numbers are instrumental. Some of the songs are loud and fast paced and jovial and really get you into the mood to decorate. Other songs move more slowly and beautifully, reminding you of the true meaning of Christmas. But all of them have an essence of christmas magic about them (boy was that cheesy sounding or what but I couldn’t think of any other way to put it) and I was pleasantly surprised to find I really enjoyed this CD.
I’m really not a fan of loud swelling orchestra music or loud singing but it didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. I’ll definitely be listening to this one more this month.

I don’t know who he is, but I’ve found that I don’t really care who it is singing Christmas songs - I pretty much like the way anyone sings them - as long as I actually like the song. Glad you were introduced to a new artist - I will need to listen to him sometime. Take care and have a great weekend, Summer.
You’re up late! It’s still November where I live, but don’t worry, I’ve been listening to Christmas music for 2 weeks now. I’ll have to check this one out!
Okay this is funny… I iTuned this cd and started playing it just now for Steve and said, “Guess who this is?” and he says… oh, oh… it’s um…. Michael W. Smith!
Then he starts singing “Friends are friends forever…”
I’m pretty sure you would recognize some of MWS’s stuff if you heard it. Does this sound familiar?:
“Looking for a reason
Roaming through the night to find
My place in this world
My place in this world”
or…
”
You are the love of my life,
And I’m so glad you found me,
You are the love of my life,
Baby put your arms around me,
I guess this is how it feels,
When you finally find something real.
My angel in the night, you are my love…
The love of my life…”
Hey, I guess I do know some of Michael W. Smith’s stuff. Looking for a reason was always on the Light FM station. That’s all my mom ever listened too. In the house, in the car. I know the lyrics to nearly every song that plays on any Light FM station around the country thanks to momma. Is that sad or what? :)
I grew up on Michael W. Smith’s music. I just put mine in last night for the first time and it blew me away. It’s not at all like his usual music which has more of a pop vibe. It takes a LOT to impress me musically, and this music literally brought tears to my eyes. In a good way.
Hahaha, he’s the “love of my life” guy? I’m the same as you Summer, I ONLY know that song because of my Mom’s incessant LightFM listening. That song is soooooo cheesy. Although I’m way more tolerant of cheesiness during the Christmas season, so maybe his Christmas album is OK.
I’m a total sucker for Christmas music, no matter who’s singing!
I used to listen to quite a bit of MWS… haven’t for a long time though. Maybe I’ll have to check this CD out!
My husband got me tickets to see him in Chautauqua, NY last year. I love him! I also have one of his older Christmas CD’s.
Thanks for the review of this one… I’s been wondering if it was worth picking up and you sold me : )
