I’ll laugh about it later

Thanks for your supportive comments on my earlier post about the trials of motherhood. It’s so easy to be caught up in the moment. I don’t know that I’ll laugh about every bad moment sometime in the future, but there are certainly many I can already laugh at.

Just tonight hubby and I were chuckling as we remembered Count Dooku’s toddlerhood. We came out one morning to find melted ice cream puddles on the carpet and cars covered in ice cream. A three year old Count Dooku wearing only a diaper was sitting in one of the puddles, holding a truck. When we asked why in the world he had made such a mess he said, “I jus wanted to dwive my twucks fwoo da ice cweam.”

Perfectly logical don’t you think?

Another time when Count Dooku was the same age, Hubby found our white laundry strewn on the floor covered in Carribean Jerk sauce. Yes, Count Dooku had invaded the fridge, unscrewed the lid on the bottle and poured the dark brown sauce all over the whites just for fun. What prompted him to do so, we’ll never know. We were a bit upset about that one then. But we laughed heartily about it tonight.

I’ll try to remember these sorts of moments so I can keep my temper under better control next time. Because I’ll either be laughing about it in the future, or I’ll have forgotten it altogether, which means it likely wasn’t important enough to get mad about in the first place.

I title these moments “Surviving Motherhood” and it is just that sometimes! Cute stories and the best thing about them is that they do get funnier with time.

Thanks for coming by - see you soon. Kellan

I seriously need to think of a funny angle on tonight’s incident of throwing a pillow across the room (just for fun, you know) knocking over a glass of milk that was left on the table, and nearly ruining said pillow.

Or how my son has decided that any time he’s left alone in a room to sleep, he suddenly has to strip half naked and pee on the floor, all while crying pitifully, even if it’s been *literally* only 5 seconds since he was left alone.

The mind boggles.

But you’re wise to laugh over the crappy things. I could use a conversation like you and your hubby had! ;)

Oh those little boys and their minds…I can’t keep up with my 21 mo. old…these moments really make me want to pull my hair out…I like your closing thoughts…something to really ponder on for me! Thanks!

One thing I’ve learned as a mother is to ask why they did something. There’s always some sort of twisted logic to it!

No kidding! I need to remember this constantly. Or maybe just know that whatever they do, it’s subject for blogging posts? ;)

Yeah, some of the worst messes make for some of the best memories and heartiest laughs :D (I think the Caribbean laundry situation would likely have launched me into orbit though :D)

You’re so brilliant. No, really. You are.

“I jus wanted to dwive my twucks fwoo da ice cweam.” Duh, Summer, why else would he do that, lol!
Laughing about things later is great, even when not involving the surprises of motherhood . (ie. Our general conference adventure, ha ha ha!)

I hear ya… sometimes it’s hard to laugh… and you’re right, you may not laugh at everything. This is a good lesson for me too… maybe I need to start thinking “Should I take a picture?” every time before I get mad ;)
