A little bit of drama, a whole lot of sweet

I never thought a baby girl would be that much different from a baby boy. Well, excepting anatomy of course. But I’ve changed my mind since having one - we women are doomed from the start.

An initial emotion may be one of sadness or frustration, but she doesn’t let it stay at that. No, she goes for added volume just to be extra clear about what she’s feeling. She’s finally learned that throwing her body backwards and hitting her head on the floor when she’s mad does more harm than good - now she kicks her legs wildly instead. Or if she’s in my arms she kicks and flails and hyperventilates as well. It’s quite a display. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I want to cry and sometimes I want to cuddle her and say, “Yeah, some days I just want to throw myself on the floor and kick and scream and hyperventilate too.”

She’s like an over filled water balloon. Always on the verge of bursting. She’s not even a teenager yet! But the drama can only last so long and then it’s back to that 4 toothed grin that makes me melt. It’s back to the toddling/stumbling around the house while babbling that never fails to make me smile. Back to the intense concentration of trying to fit a square block into a round hole. The drama comes and goes but there’s always an Angel underneath that I can’t seem to get enough of.

I’ve got three of those, one of the other gender. All three of my girls are just the same–they never feel anything halfway. If they’re happy, it HAPPY!!!!! and if it’s angry it’s ANGRY!!!!!!

Heaven help us when they’re all teenagers at the same time . . .

Aww…I know those kicking and screaming moments. With two daughters here, we have them a lot!

Since I will only ever have boys, I watch Deb’s girls and wonder often at the drama-ish-ness of them. She is laways amazed at the activity level of my boys.

I’ve never thought to compare my daughters tirades with my own! Huh. Interesting. You? Are brilliant.

As my son gets older, it becomes even more apparent how very GIRL my daughter is. It’s difficult not to compare the two, that’s for sure. I hate to say it, but my daughter at 1 year old definitely was an angel a vast majority of the time… the odd emotionally-charged fits were few and far between, enough to hardly think about them. BUT, as she is now nearly5 years old, I am quite honestly scared of having a teenage girl in the house. Because if she can throw crazy loud fits over practically nothing at 4 years old, what will she do when she’s 14?????

Thank goodness it seems as if she’ll always be mommy’s big helper, and always eager to “mother” the younger kids. She can definitely be sunny and sweet, but dang… those moods can hit out of nowhere.

I have definitely found raising different genders to be different adventures. But then again, each child really does come with their own temperament :) !!

Yep, I agree with Kristi. ;) It’s so strange to have boys in the house when they’re over - I’m so used to all of the drama and the noise level. Kristi always complains about the ’screaming’, but to me that’s just normal. :)

Hannah is our drama queen - every single thing that little girl does is for dramatic effect. The bigger the audience, the bigger the drama. Sigh. Not that the other two are without drama, but Hannah takes it to extremes. ;)

I have actually seen my 4 year-old look in the mirror when she’s crying, as if she is trying to perfect the art of the tantrum. I just encourage her to try a little harder, make a face back and she is laughing within seconds.

A good thing they’re so cute, huh? :D

I spend a lot of time watching my little drama queen sleep to remind me how worth it she is… ;)
