Reading Recommendations

Name one novel you think I should add to my ‘to read’ list and why.

I think all of you should read The Princess Bride. I’m half way through it now and I already love it. It’s even better than the movie and I LOVE the movie!

Just one? Wow… tough question. If you have read this let me know and I can name another one.

Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs

You will fall in love with each character as you walk through their life and will cry when the last page is through because there is no more to read. The writing was wonderful and sucked you in from the first page.

Lamb by Christopher Moore - I’ve read a lot of amazing books but this is one I can say anyone I know whose read it, loved it. I sometimes wish I hadn’t read it, so I could read it anew now.

The Last Mimzy: And Other Stories Originally published as The Best of Henry Kuttner

As the title suggests, this is a collection of short stories by Henry Kuttner. I really had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book, but I really love the short stories! They’re sort of “thinkers”, in a sci-fi, fun sort of way. Plus, it’s easy to find time to read a bunch of short stories, right? :)

I’m not a great reader and it’s so lame how I’m finding out about all these movies that I have no clue are actually books??? DUH! I just found out that 007 are a series of books. Anyway I would like to read more but can’t think of a book off hand.

Oh wait I just thought of one. I would like to read Justice Clarence Thomas biography, it’s about the lessons his grand father taught him. I love and miss my papa would died many years ago now.

Just one?! I’m totally going to break the rule.

I tell myself I don’t really like fantasy, but I’m beginning to think I’m lying. My friend just recommended Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I got it from the library Monday, finished it Tuesday, reread the ending Wednesday and finally decided to reread the whole thing today.

I also really like the Enchanted, Inc. series by Shanna Swendson (urban fantasy), though I’ve only read #3 (Damsel Under Stress) and #2 (Once upon Stilettos, I’m at the mercy of the library here!). I have #4 from the library, but I’m trying to save it to read in the hospital.

And another book I read recently that I enjoyed was Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter (YA spy. Yeah, really). Read that one in one morning.

There, I kept it to five. I never used to have time to read, LOL!

Oh, and I second that TPB is a really fun book.

I read Howl’s Moving Castle just a month or two ago and that is one of my all time favorite books now! I really enjoyed the movie too.

I read that years ago and loved it more than the movie too!

If you like historical fiction, I highly recommend The Illuminator by Brenda Rickman Vantrease.

For a police murder mystery, I loved The Ritual Bath by Faye Kellerman. It is about 10 years old and the first of a series.

For a nice book about friendship among women as they age, check out The Ladies of Covington Send Their Love by Joan Medlicott. It is also the first in a series.

Do you have a Shelfari or Library Thing set up? If not, you can visit my blog and see my Shelfari. Click it to go to my library and see what it’s like.

I love Princess Bride and Time Traveler’s Wife, also!

I second Beverly Lewis and third The Time Traveler’s wife. Beverly Lewis is addicting, it’s a good thing she’s prolific. And Time Traveler was just amazing on so many levels. It’s one of my all time favorites.

I highly recommend Twilight and the rest of the series by Stephenie Meyers. Amazing books and I never thought I would like them. Right now I am reading her new novel called The Host.

that’s hard because we all have different tastes in books.

i just finished angels & demons by dan brown and highly recommend it. it’s a real page turner. i wrote about it under the tag books.

i would also recommend jodi picoult’s book, 19 minutes. i recommend it to all parents, especially before your kids get to their teenage years. (it’s fiction)

Oh, I am not a reader but I like to read to my kids. I can read the Narnia books over and over. I’ve never read Princess Bride though. Do you think my kids would like it or is it more adult reading? I know that we all love the movie.

Lately, I’ve been reading chick lit type books. I recently read Remember Me? and really liked it!

I know it’s taken me a while to leave a comment on here, but it took me a while to think of one. I think you should read “The Dwelling Place” by Catherine Cookson.

I wrote a blog about her a while ago. She is an extremely popular British author and I REALLY enjoyed this book. Why should you read it? Because I actually really want to know what you think of it.
