Why do doctors offices do these things?

Obi Wan and Angel Girl were scheduled for check ups this morning but I realized yesterday I would have to reschedule. I called a few minutes ago hoping they wouldn’t inflict a monetary penalty for a late cancellation and was greeted by a receptionist who seemed more than happy to reschedule me.

“Thank goodness you cancelled!” she exclaimed happily.
“Oh, um, why?” I asked
“Our other receptionist triple booked the doctor for this morning,” she said, “We were gonna be real busy.”

Thanks goodness for her? Thanks goodness for me! There are few things worse than waiting with kids in a too small waiting room with other people’s sick kids for 2 hours or more.

Um, yikes! That would have been maddening!! It’s bad enough waiting forever by *yourself* when they’ve overbooked. But with kids? Yeah, my version of a nightmare. I’m curious, did you happen to ask if they had your rescheduled time double or triple booked?

Yep, I think they always do that. When I go to my OB appointments I always look at the sign up sheet and where they have your appointment time I always notice a few other people with the exact same time as mine. Rrrrrr…..

Glad that y’all didn’t have to go! It would have been a mess, waiting and then only to find out “oh we are triple booked!”. I don’t think they give enough time as it is with the dr. I figured out they allow 5 minutes of time with our ped!!

I also hate it when t hey do that! I once got mad at the receptionist when i had been waiting for an hour– she was all “we are triple booked. What do you want me to do about it?” I actually told her”Call me. I do not want to PAY someone to come here and wait.” I wish I could make them pay me everytime I have to wait. It is totally irritating that you wait longer to see the Dr than you actually get to SEE the Dr.

And, I have to go this afternoon too. Sigh. :cwy:

Our dentist has rescheduled us almost every time because he apparently takes the day off. It is annoying.

Ah, now it makes sense. That’s why we have to wait so long even though we have an appointment!

Ech! Don’t get me started! One of my pet peeves :(

I always insist on waiting out in the foyer with my kiddos, refuse to let them touch anything and chase them around with hand sanitizer — and we’re STILL getting sick. Glad you dodged a 2 hour wait :D

I consider it fair play when my baby screams and disturbs everyone in the waiting room if we have to wait a long time. Seems we get helped faster that way . . .

I had an OBGYN who had this thing down to a science… she never double booked - EVER. And if you were late, she wouldn’t see you. You’d have to reschedule. That way she was always on time for each and every appointment unless she was at the hospital delivering a baby!

Doesn’t triple booking the first of the day set the rest of the day off schedule? Why would they do that? So, when you rescheduled did you ask for a time slot that was all your own?

Ugh! What a stupid way to run an office! Whew! Thank goodness you didn’t have to deal with that mess. And, um, maybe you want to look into a different doctor’s office…?
