Worries abated

So my Grandparents (this includes the grandmother I recently mentioned and my Aunt and Uncle live in North Western Houston and stuck around to ride out the storm since they weren’t in any low lying areas. I was still worried of course because Hurricane Ike was looking to be very powerful, and it certainly was.

My Uncle helped board up the front of their houses and then they stayed inside away from the windows for the duration. I was able to reach my grandma yesterday because a neighbor came over after the storm and hooked up a corded phone he had. There are underground cables in the area.

My Grandma said the storm caused far more damage than they expected. They were blessed not to have any major damage to either of their houses but several neighbors had trees that fell across their roofs. There were trees and limbs and other debris everywhere. She said it looks like a war zone and that it’s almost impossible to even drive yet with all the debris littering the road. I’m just so glad they are ok and so glad that they were prepared for something like this, even before hurricane Ike ever developed. Our church strongly emphasizes personal preparedness so even though their power is estimated to be out for up to 3 weeks, they have all the water, food supplies and emergency supplies they need and will be fine. I’m so happy they’re all ok!

My prayers are with all the rest of the people who may be struggling down there right now.

My brother also lives north of Houston (in Tomball) and they made it through alright. They said the stores and gas stations are empty. Thank goodness for food storage - they have no power either.

I’m from Houston and watching all of this has been hard! Luckily, as you have said, most of my friends have been safe and are prepared, so grateful for the guidelines of the church!

Wow! I can’t imagine sitting through a hurricane and the stress of wondering how they were doing when you couldn’t reach them right away. Thank Goodness they are all okay!

We’re on the west side of Houston and made it through okay. Things are improving but far from normal here. Ike has left his mark, but I’m seeing so many good things in people! Glad your family was okay!
