The results of my busy week
At least I have something to show for my feeling swamped this past week. Sometimes I feel super busy but seem to have no reason for it at all. Part of what kept me so busy are these designs. And the other part are my sisters wedding invitations.
First you’re all going to have to clear something up for me. I lived most of my life in Utah and until I moved out of state I never once saw a wedding announcement/invitation that did not have a picture of the happy couple included in it. But we’ve been invited to a couple of non Mormon weddings out here and I was bummed that there was no picture with the invitations. So are pictures in wedding announcements a Utah Mormon thing or what? Anyhow, here are some design options I put together for my sis.
This is about as simple as you can get but if you have a picture with the right backdrop I think it’s very classy looking.
This one has a more traditional feel to it.
This one is…well…I’m not quite sure. Sort of modern, sort of scrappy. I’d call this the Gonzo of the wedding invitation options

This one is the winner. The first picture is of the invitation when closed. The second picture is when you open the Monogrammed flap. So the picture on the right shows whether the invitation is open or closed. I think it’s kinda nifty if I say so myself. And I like the collage.
Isn’t my sister gorgeous? I got the brains and she got the looks. *snicker* (You know I love you sis!)
Which one is your favorite? Do I have a future in wedding announcement design? (HAHA! Like I need to add anything else to my plate)

I like the first one
Nice work, Summer! Your sister sure is lucky to get your services, huh? Honestly, my favorite one is by far the first one - I love just the big picture with the invitation printed right onto it. Though, with the way you describe the folding of the “winner”, I’m sure the effect is marvelous - plus you get more fun pictures to enjoy!
Photos + invitation can’t be *just* a Utah Mormon thing. Every LDS person I know, and even a few that aren’t, have included photos with their invitations. I haven’t personally seen an invitation lacking a picture. (Gah, it would be so boring without one! That’s the best part!!)

I knew a girl from a very rich, upper-class family, and in those circles, a photo is considered tacky. But 99.9% of invitations I see have them, so I think it’s just a snooty rich thing to do!
This girl actually wanted a photo invite, but her parents would have died–so she had TWO: one formal, one really casual with the text on the photo. And she sent whichever one fit the recipient.

In all my years of receiving wedding announcements/invitations, 99% of the time it’s the Mormon ones that have a picture. It doesn’t matter if it’s Utah or not. It’s Mormon. i’ve seen pictures in a non-Mormon “save the date” announcement, but no pictures in non-Mormon announcements.
I like the first one. The last one would be ok, except that I don’t like snakes, so I really wouldn’t like opening an invitation/announcement and seeing one.
Great job! I can’t believe it. She’s all grown up!

Great job! I actually really like the third one… I am always wondering what the ring looks like! So I think thats clever. If I ever get married you’ll have to remember I liked that one… ;)
I actually have a scrapbook dedicated to all of the wedding announcements I have received… and 99% of them have pictures, the only one that doesn’t is from a nonmember couple, I taught them their wedding dance… but they had a save the date card with the pictures (it was a pillow fight, such a cute idea!) So… I guess maybe it is a more Mormon thing to do the pictures… probably because if you got one without a picture you would forget what kid it was!! kidding.
Love you!

You’re so talented, Summer. They’re all beautiful. And yes, she’s a beautiful girl! ;-)
I’ve just always assumed that wedding announcements come with a photo of the happy couple. Isn’t that how it goes???
The blog designs you’ve done are fabulous, as well.
I wish I were as talented and creative as you.

I think you definitely have a future in custom announcements. Great job!
I like the first one the best, by far. Oh I am so excited for this wedding!

I like the firs one best. Good job with the font too. I would have to see the last one to know for sure. It kind of reminds me of mine, I don’t know if you remember, but nobody understood what I was talking about until they saw it all put together!

You know, now that you mention it - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wedding invitation WITH a picture of the bride and groom on it. Strange…
My favorite is the first one! :)

Awesome work, Summer! I love engagement/wedding announcements that have photos and we’ve received several that are like that (I’m in AZ…).
Your sister and her husband-to-be make a very cute couple. I love the second announcement. It’s so cute how she is leaning back against the tree like that, laughing. They look so happy together and I like the fact that the photo appears to be “unposed.”
