Long enough to donate again
I think it’s because my grandma has breast cancer that donating to locks of love is important to me. It’s strange how just losing all your hair can make you feel so much less beautiful, less confident. And imagine having that happen to you as a child. I donated my first 10 inches back in 2003, then 8 inches in 2006 and the other day I thought it was time to donate again. This time I took off 7 inches for the cause. I plan to grow my hair out and donate it for as many years as I can. Anyway, here is a before and after shot:
I decided to go with a totally different style than I’ve ever had before. I got lots of layers and some tapered bangs. I asked the stylist if she thought the layers would help bring out my natural curl and she said yes. I can’t really wear my hair curly when it’s long because of the weight but when it’s shorter it works ok. I think I like it better than any haircut I’ve ever had. Of course I’ll just grow it out again but it will be fun for a little while.

WAY cute ‘do! My daughter is a couple of months away from donating her hair. It was her idea, and I’m really proud of her.

Summer, your new look is so cute on you… although I must say that you also look fantastic with long hair! It’s great that you can go back and forth so easily!
Sometimes I miss my nice long hair from my high school days. But then I remember how annoyed I get with even just taking care of my shoulder-length hair. How can you actually have 3 kids and still work with long hair? It’s almost beyond my comprehension!! I’m a little bit jealous!
I’m sorry about your grandmother’s fight with breast cancer. I applaud your commitment to doing something to make a difference in helping people who are going through cancer treatments. I certainly wouldn’t enjoy losing my hair, either.
May I suggest that you look into the legitimacy of helping through Locks of Love, however? They aren’t such a fantastic organization to donate to as most people are led to think, sadly.
Here’s a NY Times article on it:

And here’s a friend’s blog post about it, and she also links to other options for donating:

Hey Becky,
Those articles are very interesting. I knew that LOL doesn’t necessarily give wigs to children with cancer. But any condition that causes someone to lose all their hair is worthy of donation I think. And I have read and made sure to follow their guidelines to exactness so I hope they didn’t toss my hair.
Maybe next time I’ll try another service though since more and more are popping up.
You’re beautiful! Terrific haircut and an equally terrific cause.

Looks really cute! I chopped my hair from nearly waist length to shoulder length before my mission and donated it. I haven’t let it grow out long again, though. It is so much work long!
Summer, I love your new “do”. You were bootiful before, but you are a knockout now. I love, it, love it, love it. Love you too

Cu-ute! I donated mine to Locks a couple of years ago, but since I color it, they don’t use it quite the same way. It’s probably long enough to chop now, but I’m liking the length. Maybe, now that I’ve seen your cute do, I’ll go back for another bob cut. Do love to sport the bob.

I love the hair! I think it is so cute. And I think it is totally awesome that you donate it.
How the heck do you get your hair to grow that fast? Wow! I haven’t cut my hair for almost two years and they’d have to shave me bald to get the required amount still. What is the req’d amount anyway? I always thought it was 10, but obviously not. I’m hoping that with another year, I’ll be ready. :)
