My first Wedding Cake

Don’t scrutinize it too closely or you’ll notice what a hurry I was in. For some reason the large chunk of time taken away from me by the 10 hour trip to and from St. George the day before the reception, didn’t seem like such a big deal until I was in the middle of getting everything together. Plus I didn’t anticipate having to make all the floral arrangements myself. There was a miscommunication with the florist so I ended up doing most of the arrangements you see. Like the large one in the middle, the one on top and several of the little ones (my mom did the other little ones).

The cake was very unsatisfactory for my expectations of myself, but it exceeded the bride and grooms expectations so I’ll have to be content with that. It was my first attempt at fondant drapery as well. I don’t know what I was thinking when I said I would do ANY cake my dear sister wanted. This was definitely the most difficult cake I’ve ever decorated. I’ve told my youngest sister that I hope she’ll choose one that involves less work whenever she gets married. Ha!

Ooo you’re a cake decorator too! That is fabulous. Well done you. What a lucky sister, but I know about the stress involved in a big production so I more than sympathise with the request for something less stressful with the other sister.
Cheers

When I first looked at it I thought it was a brown scarve wrapped around it. I later realized you’d done that with icing…

My god, your amazing!!!!

Summer, I don’t know if you knew this, but I used to help coordinate weddings, many for rich people and celebrities, including Christina Applegate’s. And that cake is superior to many that I saw.

I’m very impressed, I think it looks fantastic. I can’t imagine trying to do that plus all the other things that go on for family during a wedding day, you must have been super busy!

Summer, it’s totally awesome. I could barely make those box cakes. Good thing my boys were not picky.

I think it’s beautiful and if the bride and groom are happy, that is what counts.

Besides you know you are harder on yourself than anyone else.

HUGZ,
Janice

amazing! I know fondant isn’t particularly delicious, but the color in that draping is so perfectly carmelly that I want to lick it right now!

It is truly a masterpiece…let yourself be WAY more than content and just sit back and enjoy what a beautiful cake you made. We are often to critical of ourselves, but it is beyond anything I could ever do! You are awesome.

That’s beautiful! You are so talented. You may see the imperfections, but I’m sure everyone else just saw a lovely cake.

But the true test is: how did it taste? ;)
