Monster vs. Aliens - A Review

I would like to tell you that it was my awesome blogging skills that got me 4 passes to an advanced screening of Monsters vs. Aliens, but really I was just lucky. I entered an online giveaway for tickets and it paid off. Movies at the theater are ridiculously overpriced even when the economy isn’t crashing so we rarely go. But the very first day my sons (ages 7 and 5) saw a preview for this movie, they both declared themselves fans. If you’re a parent, you know what enjoyment is to be had from watching the looks of delight on your childrens faces as they get something they really really want. The moral of the story? Win things for your children so you don’t have to pay for that enjoyment.
I could try to do a whole critical review about how the movie is made, what they could have done better effects wise, etc. But when it comes to kids movies I don’t see why critics get so worked up. They’re made for kids, that’s the whole point. There is bound to be cheese and plot holes and annoyances simply because grown up and kids don’t like the same things. When making a movie for kids the point is to tell an exciting story, not a flawless one. Besides, the main question on a parents minds is: Is it appropriate for my child to watch? In the past, Dream Works’ animated films have been hit or miss in that department. I took my sons blindly to Monsters vs. Aliens and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed.
It’s got plenty of slap stick comedy, over the top characters (as much as I love Stephen Colbert I do not care for the flamboyant U.S. President he voices) and of course bodily functions must always come into play. But it’s also got some really nifty action sequences, gags that only adults would get and loveable, quirky monsters that give the show it’s heart.
Monsters vs. Aliens is a movie that both parents and their children will enjoy and if you don’t have the funds to see it in the theater make a note to have a movie night with your kiddos after it comes out. They’ll love it!

Where did you get your blog layout from? I’d like to get one like it for my blog.
Great blog, keep up the work. I have just started my own blog and I love checking out others to see what can be done.
That’s so cool that you won free passes to see an advanced screening of this! I was interested in this movie when I saw the previews and now I think I will make a point of seeing it, even though I don’t have kids yet myself…I’m enough of a kid at heart that I think I could enjoy it ;).
Sounds fun!

Great review because for me too - kids movies are just that, for kids. And you might still get free passes someday for being such an important blogger :)

I’m waiting for this to come out of video. The blue guy looks very entertaining from the commercials I’ve seen.
@Carol
Bob the Blob is my favorite character and the boys like him best too. He’s hilarious!
