Tower of Strength by Annette Lyon (psst…giveaway)

Published by Summer at 6:00 am under Reviews

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED - The winner is comment #9, Renee

I’ve never met Annette Lyon in person but she seems terribly nice. She blogs over at The Lyon’s Tale and how she finds motivation to blog in addition to being a published author is a wonder to me. (I’m writing a story I hope to publish right now and I’m definitely falling behind in blog land because of it). I’ve never read anything of Annette’s before but I’d like to read her other stories after reading this one. Her 6th and most recent novel, Tower of Strength, hit stores just this month.

The story is about a young mother, Tabitha Hall. Seven years have passed since she was widowed just two months into her marriage and her first pregnancy. She’s become a self sufficient woman in a mans world and learns to be strong for her 6 year old son, but decides moving back home is the best thing for him. Upon moving back to Manti Utah she discovers a second chance at love, but will she accept it with all the risks that loving any person involves?

“Weaving themes of loss and renewal, this poignant tale explores a vital choice each of us must make: to seek safety in isolation or to embrace the painful yet beautiful complexities of life and love.”

I opened and read the book in just a few hours. I was instantly caught up in the tale of this woman who had buried her emotions to avoid getting hurt again. I enjoyed the tender romance that blossomed throughout the book between her and Samuel, a recently widowed British immigrant.

While the book is based around Mormon characters and has some Mormon terminology, it isn’t so overwhelemed by it that non-Mormons couldn’t enjoy this book as well. It’s a tale that reinforces the fact that without the negative and sad in this world, we would never fully appreciate the joy.

It’s a great story and well written. I definitely recommend it!

I’m not entering the contest, but wanted to add my “hear hear!” It was an absolutely beautiful, compelling read. Loved it!

I’d really like to read it! Hm… fave romance novels….

When it comes to faves, all I can think of are unhappy ones, LOL—The Great Gatsby, The Age of Innocence, Ethan Frome. How did I ever end up writing books with HEAs?

Well I certainly can’t resist the chance to win a new book to read!! This sounds like a lovely story. And the cover art is really gorgeous, too!

I don’t read a lot of romance stories - but the most recent one that could fit that category is Austenland by Shannon Hale. It was fun and had an absolutely perfect ending. Yay!

I love the book, too! (Don’t have my own copy though, so I’d love to win one, but I don’t live in the states, but I can give an address in the states if that works, if not, no prob.)

Hmmm, romance. I just love the old classics like Austen and the Bronte sisters. I like the subtle ones maybe like Villette and I recently read and loved The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

    Thanks for the review!

Twilight? :) No, I can’t really think of any romance novels I have read. At least no recently.

This sounds like a good book!

Don’t enter me because I’ve already got the book, but I just have to say I’ve met Annette and she is very, very nice. I also like her other books that I’ve read.

I’d love a chance to win! My favorite romantic book is probably Hearts in Hiding by Betsy Brannon-Green. I also love the Gable series by Anita Stansfield.

My favorite romance novel of all time - Pride and Prejudice. I love that book! And though the newest movie with Keira Knightley was good, I still think the lengthier A&E version is the best!

I am excited for a chance at to win Tower of Strength. I don’t read many romance novels, but I typically enjoy your recommendations. If I don’t win though, I expect to see that book of yours published soon!! Just thought I’d let you know. :)

This looks like an enjoyable story. My favorite romance stories are by Debbie Macomber — her Blossom Street Series.
