Thanks Tiff

Tiff at My Three Ring Circus has given me an award:

I guess I make her smile. Thanks Tiff! If you haven’t ever checked out Tiff’s blog you simply must. She’s a fantastic photographer and a fantastic mother who has put her all into seeing her little daughter Ivy get better.

I am going to pass this award on to:

Kenna at Kennalynn.com whose awesome sense of humor always makes my day. *hint hint Kenna, need more posts from you*

Getting caught up

I was on vacation when these awards rolled in, but now I’m going to acknowledge them and pass them on.

Awarded me by Dad of Divas, Mozi Esme and Toni at A Daily Dose of Toni. The rules are: put the logo on your blog. Put a link to me (who awarded it to you) on your blog also. You need to nominate 7 other bloggers for the award and put links to them also on your blog. Finally, leave a comment for those you’ve nominated - so they know they’ve received a special award.

I’d like to pass this on to:

Richelle at Richelle’s Reflections
Ree at Ree Writes
Lucy at An Ordinary Mom
Becky at The Newson Narrative
Tiff at My Three Ring Circus
Leslie at You Just Gotta Laugh
Kenna at Shrek loves Fiona

This one was given to me by Deb at Mom of 3 Girls who said of me:

“Another good blogging friend! Not so much photography here, at least not that she shares, but she has created some wonderful blog sites and I love her designs. And she writes with such clarity and vividness that you truly feel like you are there. And then there are her extremely helpful html tips that she posts every so often - definitely a huge help!”

The rules of this award are as follows:

1)You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language

2)Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3)Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.

4)Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.

The 5 bloggers I’d like to pass this award onto are:

Michelle at In the Life of a Child
Susan at Strange Pulse
Christine at Are We There Yet
Janice at Chasing Myself
Loni at Loni’s Argyle Socks

Lastly, I was tagged by Becky at The Newson Narrative. Here are the rules: Answer these 15 questions about yourself on your blog.
Tag five people at the end of your post by leaving their names.

JOYS
1. I love an awesome thunder, lightning and rain storm. I seriously hope I die getting struck by lightning, later in life of course. The awesome power of a good storm always thrills me.

2. Learning something new. I just love teaching myself new things.

3. My family. Sounds so cliche right? But becoming a mother has brought me the greatest joy I’ve ever known.

FEARS
1. That I won’t always be able to protect my children from their poor decisions. I know it has to be that way if they’ll grow and become better, but I wish that day would never come.

2. That I won’t get everything I want to accomplish done before I die.

3. Being overcome by panic and depression at some future point. I know I’m never out of the dark on this one, but I hope it never gets so bad again.

GOALS
1. To learn as much as I possibly can before I die

2. To teach my children the best I can and not count myself a failure when/if they make their own choice to go astray someday.

3. To publish a novel

OBSESSIONS/COLLECTIONS
1. I love collecting coins/bills. I don’t know what is worth what or anything like that. I just like foreign coins or bills or super old ones. The oldest coins I’ve found so far are a 1928 Buffalo Nickel and a 1924 Wheat Penny. I also have a 1934 silver certificate.

2. I am obsessed with anything old/antique. I walk into an antique shop and just feel this reverence wash over me. I don’t know why but it’s always been this way. Old documents especially, oh, just looking at an amazingly beautiful piece of preserved history makes me tear up. I guess it’s fitting that I love genealogy so much.

3. I love to collect little souvenirs from places I’ve been. I have a cuckoo clock from the Black Forest in Germany, a hand whittled whistle from Switzerland, shot glasses and magnets from many different locations, etc.

RANDOM, SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT ME
Hmmm, is there anything I haven’t let hang out here on this blog? Let’s see…

1. I love all things slimy and slithery. I use to find snails and catch frogs as a kid. I still love them. Oh and someday I want to get a pet snake.

2. I am a highly musical person. I use to sing duets and trios with my mom and sisters in church. I currently play the piano and in the past I have played clarinet, tenor saxophone and alto saxophone.

3. I love nearly all creatures, but there is one that gives me the heebie jeebies. The moth. Too many memories of dead moths tangled in my hair each morning after a night of camping I suppose.

I’ll leave this tag open.

Thanks for the Nomination

Somebody thinks my blog is pretty darn good looking. I just discovered I’m on the nominee ballot over at Island Life’s Bloggy Hoss Awards. How very nice of you!

It reminds me of that one time in High School I got nominated for…

um….

Wait a minute. I’m sure there was something people loved me for.

*sigh*

Nope, guess not.

On the upside, this is a first! Woohoo!! Feeling the love!! I know I haven’t necessarily won but it’s a nomination, come on! Good enough for me!

*doin’ the happy dance*

Ok, better stop now. :)

News, An Award and Two Memes

Since bloggyland is moving so slowly right now I think I’ll catch up on some stuff.

1. My littlest brother has decided to join the blog world so go tell him hi!

2. Tiff over at Three Ring Circus has given me an award:

wonderfulwomenwaward.jpg

I’d like to pass it on to some other wonderful women I’ve met via blog world - Ally,
Christine, Janice, Kailani, Michelle, Stacey, Jordan, Melissa, Marie, Deb, Thalia’s Child, Laurie, Kenna, Kristi,Cristy, Corrie, Holly, Jessica, Cheryl and Lucy

3. A long while back Becky tagged me for the HOUSEKEEPING MEME:

What three kitchen items do you use the most often?
A cookie sheet, small saucepan and stand mixer

What kitchen gadget do you wish you had?
I miss having a pizza stone. It’s great for cookies. Ours broke.

What kitchen gadget do you never use/wish you hadn’t spent money on?
We received an apple corer/peeler device for our wedding and it’s crap. I finally tossed it.

What is your favorite cookbook
I actually don’t use a cookbook. I’ve compiled all my favorite recipes gathered from wherever into a binder. But when I’m looking for new recipes my favorite recipe site is Allrecipes.com

Who is your cooking inspiration
This ought to be who is my baking inspiration since my husband does most of the cooking and I bake. My love of baking started with my mom who let us help her make cookies in the kitchen as kids. Now one of my favorite things to do is bake with my kids.

What are the three most important items on your spice rack
cinnamon, cloves and (when I do cook) garlic salt

What are three recipes you use all the time?
For cooking, Chicken Crescents, Chicken Cheese Bake and Stuffed Manicotti

Can you share a cooking/baking secret?
To easily remove garlic peel, lay a large sharp knife atop the garlic and give the garlic underneath a good quick pound with the flat of your hand. The peel will come right off.

What is your greatest cleaning secret
Murphy’s Oil Soap

What is your favorite thing to clean
Really, I just enjoy cleaning in general. A clean house feels so…happy

What is your least favorite thing to clean?
The bathtub hands down. The one thing I dread cleaning.

4. And Ree tagged me for the HUSBAND MEME:

1. What is his name?
Tom.
2. How long have you been married?
7 years 3 months.
3. How long did you date?
We met and got married all within 4 months 16 days.
4. How old is he?
28.
5. Who eats more sweets?
Me for sure.
6. Who said I love you first?
Well we sort of said it at the same time. I asked him if he thought you could love a person after only knowing them one week and he said yes.
7. Who is taller?
Tom is 6′ 4”. I’m 5′ 4”.
8. Who can sing better?
Me.
9. Who is smarter?
We’re both smart in very different ways.
10. Who does the laundry?
Me.
11. Who pays the bills?
Him.
12. Who sleeps on the right side?
Him.
13. Who mows the lawn?
Management.
14. Who cooks dinner?
He does.
15. Who drives?
He does.
16. Who kissed who first?
I kissed him.
17. Who asked who out first?
He asked me. We went hiking up to a cave.
18. Who proposed?
He did. He picked out the ring all himself and it’s perfect.
19. Who has more siblings?
He does. I have 4 siblings, and he has 12 siblings!
20. Who wears the pants?
We share the pants.

Alright, that’s all for today folks. Play along if you’d like.

Warning: Although this was my very first attempt at photo shopping my head onto someone else’s body, I have discovered that the process is highly addicting. If you plan to learn how to do it, proceed with caution and lots of spare time.

E is for Excellent

excellentblog.jpg

Tiff over at Three Ring Circus thinks my blog is Excellent. If there is one award I have truly been coveting it was this one. Possibly because it relates to video games which, if you’ve read my blog for long you know I love my SNES and PS2! Still wishing for that Wii…anybody? Anybody?

Ahem!

So thank you very much Tiff and I’m going to pass this along to:

Kenna at Shrek + Fiona
Ree at Ree Writes
and
Marie over at Memarie Lane

They’re not the only excellent bloggers I read but I thought I would spotlight them. Happy President’s Day everyone!
